A weather warning for strong winds has been issued for Suffolk next week.

The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for much of the country on Tuesday, December 7.

The weather warning may cause some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport and some short term loss of power.

Phil Garner from the East Anglian-based weather forecasters Weatherquest said we will see bands of cloud and rain coming through from the west everyone once in a while next week as the strong winds settle in on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Tuesday and Wednesday are looking quite breezy and blustery," Mr Garner said.

"The winds for the region will start to pick up on Tuesday afternoon with gusts of around 40mph around the coasts.

"The winds go around southerly as we go overnight and into Wednesday where we will see gusts of about 35mp to 38mph which is not as strong as when Storm Arwen was around.

"The weather will turn a little bit drier and brighter weather is expected on Thursday and Friday."

It is also likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves due to the strong winds.

The warning comes after a flood alert was issued for parts of the Suffolk and north Essex coast today as water levels are expected to be higher than normal.

The region has seen some snowfall already this winter with the small possibility of a white Christmas this year.
