Greater Anglia services have returned to normal after a person was hit and killed by a train between Colchester and Manningtree.

The incident blocked all lines between the two towns. The disruption lasted until around 5pm.

Many services were cancelled with the train operator initially telling people to expect delays of around 90 minutes.

Earlier a replacement bus service was introduced to try and help passengers continue their journeys.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “Our officers were called to the line between Manningtree and Ardleigh at noon today after reports a person had been hit by a train.

“Colleagues from the East of England Ambulance Service also attended but a person still to be identified was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.

“Officers will prepare a file for the coroner.”
