A twist on a classic Beatles song provided the theme for a cake commissioned for a charity event and people are being encouraged to get involved.

The Stowmarket Lions MacMillan Cancer Support Fun Day will be held on Saturday, September 15, at the United Reformed Church in Stowmarket between 10am-2pm.

Philip Jeffries, owner of Japanese car dealership Jeffries of Bacton, commissioned a cake with the brief - ‘We all live in a yellow Subaru’.

The cake – made by Glenda Price of Stowmarket Sugarcraft Club – had its preview at the Bacton Fair on Saturday, August 4, and it is hoped it will inspire other businesses, schools, and clubs to take part to bake and donate a cake which represents what they do.

Kev Parker, fundraising chairman, said: “Stowmarket Lions have long supported MacMillan Cancer Support and the fabulous work they do with a wide range of fund raising events including our annual Suffolk Villages Charity Bike Ride, Ernie Pearce Memorial Charity Boxing Dinner and our annual charity golf day.

“This year we thought we would do something a bit different and we have Lions, their partners, families and friends all preparing to bake, donate and bring along a cake on the day.

“All proceeds from the suggested donations for teas, coffees and cakes will go to MacMillan Cancer Support, but we will also be using the occasion to announce our achievement of reaching a staggering £1million of fundraising for Lions local charities since the Lions Club of Stowmarket & District was formed in 1980.”
