A person has died after being hit by a train.

Greater Anglia confirmed on Tuesday morning that services between Ipswich and London were cancelled after an incident on the tracks between Colchester and Chelmsford.

The 7.12am Ipswich to London Liverpool Street service was terminated at Colchester and did not call at Stratford and London Liverpool Street.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Witham railway station at around 6.50am today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene."

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
