Around 75 firefighters from two counties were called to fight a thatch roof fire at a historic hall.

Large crews from Suffolk and Norfolk Fire fought "tirelessly" overnight last night to put out the blaze at Ubberston Hall in Stonham Aspel, near Stowmarket.

According to the services, nobody was hurt, but the grade-II listed building suffered severe damage.

It is the second time a fire has ripped through the 15th-century hall, which was restored after another fire in 2015.

Group Manager Aeneas Postlethwaite commended the work of the firefighters and said: "We'll be working with the owners over the next day or so to identify the cause and support them in this time."
