A lorry dragging roadworks cones onto the A4 in mid Suffolk has brought traffic to a standstill.

The roadworks along the A14 between Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket have been causing severe traffic delays for weeks now.

However, on Monday morning the queues were significantly longer than they had been previously.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said that at about 7am a lorry dragged some of the cones along the edge of the roadworks into the middle of the main carriageway.

While the roadworks are being completed, the dual carriageway has been operating as one lane, and so traffic drew to a standstill while highway workers cleared the road.

The issue has now been cleared, but traffic continues to move slowly in the roadworks area.
