New owners of The Auberge in Yaxley, off A140 in Suffolk

Jake Berridge and Katy Winch-Furness have moved from Hertfordshire to take over The Auberge in Yaxley, off the A140 near Eye.

The Auberge had been owned by the Stenhouse family for more than two decades and it was included as one of the 32 best eateries in Suffolk in the AA Restaurant Guide for 2023.

Mr Berridge, who has several years' experience working in hospitality, said he and his partner had been on the lookout for a restaurant in East Anglia.

They came close to taking over a restaurant in the Haverhill area, but when that purchase fell through they opted for The Auberge.

Mr Berridge said the couple had moved into the property and were looking to respect its history as one of Suffolk's top restaurants.

He said: "We took over on October 21 so we have been here now for just over a month.

"The engagement we have had has been really positive. There's been some brilliant reviews on Tripadvisor, as well as in person.

"We have come from very much out of area, so we are trying to become a part of the community.

"We love this part of Suffolk and we love being out in the countryside. It's a great hub being in this area – we're close to the coast, Bury St Edmunds and Diss.

"Since we moved in we have gone about a small refurb, putting our small stamp on things.

"But we are in love with the heritage of building – we want to retain that. We have big boots to fill so we are looking for consistency. 

"Katie and I are getting married next year and we want to make this our family home. We're very passionate about having that family feel about us."
