It’s been quite a week for Needham Market, with the arrival of two experienced non-league players, a promising youngster, and a change in personnel in the Academy.
Former Ipswich Town and Cambridge United defender Ian Miller, 31, has joined Bloomfields, alongside striker Simon Thomas, formerly of Crystal Palace, as Needham Market look to kick on from their first win in the Ryman Premier Division last weekend.
Needham boss Mark Morsley has also added Colchester United youngster Callum Harrison to his squad as they visit Metropolitan Police tomorrow. The central midfielder has joined on loan from the U’s.
There has also been significant change in the academy, with the departure of former Manchester City, West Ham United, and Ipswich Town midfielder Kevin Horlock, who was at the club for seven years.
Taking over from Horlock as the head coach of the academy (north site) is Colchester United legend Karl Duguid.
Duguid, who made almost 400 league appearances for the U’s, joined the Marketmen in the summer, and joins another former U in Kem Izzet, in an academy management role at the Suffolk club.
Player-captain Izzet is Needham’s academy manager of the south site in Brantham.
