Six acres of bluebells which have recently burst into bloom at Haughley Park Woods and gardens near Stowmarket have been open to the public for the past two Sundays.

As a result, around £7,500 has been raised for St Mary’s Church in Wetherden - a record amount according to church warden and treasurer Mike Tuffin.

He said: “Because the weather has been fine and the bluebells have been really good this year, we have been very busy both weekends and as a result we have raised a record amount.”

Volunteers from the church manned the gate and served tea and cakes in the barn.

Mr Tuffin added: “This is the church’s biggest fundraiser and without it we would not be able to survive.

“It’s hard work for the volunteers but enjoyable and very worthwhile.”
