AFC Sudbury boss Mark Morsley expects to learn more about his team as they travel to the Met Police in the FA Trophy First Qualifying Round tomorrow.

The experienced boss took over at Bostik North Sudbury in a shock return to management earlier this season, and takes his charges to the Bostik Premier side knowing that they are second favourites.

But Morsley, one of the most respected figures in the non-league game, says his side have nothing to lose against their higher-ranked opponents.

He said: “It’s a free hit for my team as I haven’t had a pre-season to look at systems and players so game like this allows me to learn a bit about my team.

“I’m not saying we haven’t got a chance, clearly the home team are the favourites - but don’t write us off!

“The plus point is that this is a great opportunity for my team to gain experience against an established step 3 club. Their manager Jim Cooper is an excellent and experienced manager and his teams are always tough to play against.

“What we no longer talk about is the A word (age), we are a team of footballers all of whom are good enough to play for AFC Sudbury and although we need to gain experience, hence the importance of playing a step 3 team.

“From this game we’ll learn a bit about ourselves and each other.”

Elsewhere in the FA Trophy, Bury Town host Chalfont St Peter, while Mildenhall Town travel to King’s Lynn. Maldon & Tiptree will entertain Walton Casuals, while Morsley’s former side, Needham Market, play host to Arlesey.

Witham Town travel to Potters Bar Town, while fellow Essex side Heybridge Swifts also hit the road to play Tonbridge Angels. Finally, in terms of local teams in Trophy action, Lowestowft Town hit the road to play Worthing.

Meanwhile, in National League South, high-flying Braintree Town and Chelmsford City are both in action. The Iron, who sit second on goal difference, are home to Havant & Waterlooville, while third-placed Chelmsford are at Chippenham.
