Rick Andrews says his Stowmarket Town side head into tomorrow’s clash with fellow high flyers Newmarket Town with nothing to fear, writes Alex Moss.

The Old Gold and Blacks visit the newly sponsored Bloorie.com Stadium tomorrow afternoon (3pm) as the in-form team in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, having won seven and drawn two of their last nine league outings.

It is a run of form which has helped Stow rise from 21st to sixth in the table, but the clash with the third-placed Jockeys promises to pose the biggest threat to their current unbeaten run yet.

“I’m looking forward to it,” the Stow boss said. “They’re third in the table and are doing extremely well, so we know it’s going to be a tough game.

“We’ll go there with confidence though and we’ve got nothing to be worried about. If you have aspirations to climb the pyramid, then you need to look forward to games like this.”

First half goals from Josh Mayhew, his 23rd in all competitions this season, and Dave Cowley, his first for the club since joining from AFC Sudbury earlier this month, proved to be the difference in Tuesday night’s 2-1 win at home against Hadleigh United.

Stow have picked up 23 points out of a possible 27 since their last league defeat, a 2-0 reverse at Kirkley & Pakefield on September 12, and a victory over Newmarket would certainly send out a message to their promotion rivals.

But Andrews insists he will be viewing the clash with the Jockeys just like any other and says the result will not be decisive for his side’s prospects this season.

“Some people have been saying this game will be a marker of where we are at, but we’re still in October,” said Andrews, whose Stow side will host Great Yarmouth Town on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

“There’s a long way to go, another five or six months of the season, so if we go there and win it doesn’t mean we’re going to finish above them and if we lose it doesn’t mean we’re not going to finish above them.”
