Needham Market boss Richard Wilkins is hoping his side can kick on from their fine performance on Tuesday night.

The Marketmen, in front of a huge crowd of more than 600, held big-spending Billericay Town to a 1-1 draw in the Bostik Premier, after going behind.

It was a massive point for Wilkins’ team, who have yet to get on a seriously good run of form. Tomorrow afternoon at Bloomfields they entertain bottom-placed Worthing.

“It’s all about standards, our standards,” Wilkins said.

“We’ve set our standards with our second-half performance on Tuesday night. That’s the way we should play.

“I felt we went into the Billericay game a bit apprehensive, but we grew into it.

“That sort of performance was waiting to happen though.

“We were very unlucky at Dorking and we haven’t had the rub of the green in many games this season so far.”

Needham have only won three of their 14 league games this campaign and will view today’s game with Worthing – who have yet to win a league match – and Tuesday night’s game at Lowestoft, who have just lost manager Ady Gallagher, as win targets.

“I would like four points from these two games, but quite honestly we are capable of getting six,” Wilkins said.

“If we play like we did in the second half on Tuesday night, then we will get six.

“We need to go on a run. There is no reason we can’t go six or seven games unbeaten. Our win against Arlesey in the Trophy, while not our best performance was just what we needed and the Billericay game continued that on.

“I still think we will finish in the top ten.”

Worthing, meanwhile, picked up a morale-boosting win over Lowestoft last weekend in the FA Trophy.

Two late strikes sealed their progression to the next round with an ultimately comfortable 3-0 victory over the Trawlerboys.

They maybe sitting bottom but few teams have turned them over this season and they have drawn six of their 15 league games.
