Plans to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War in Stowmarket have been unveiled.

Jointly arranged by the Stowmarket branch of the Royal British Legion, St Peter & St Mary’s Parish Church and the town council, the commemorations on Sunday, November 11, will include a parade and services.

The parade will begin from Red Gables at 8.45am, proceeding through the town along Ipswich Street to the church where the service will start at 9.30am.

Following the church service, there will be a short service in the Market Place at 10.50am with the silence observed at 11am.

The parade will then march to the town’s memorial gates at the recreation ground for the poppy wreath laying ceremony.

Linda Baxter, Stowmarket town mayor, said: “As has always been the custom here in Stowmarket, it would be lovely to see as many people as possible attending the remembrance parade and services, especially as this year commemorates the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that brought an end to four and a half years of conflict.”
