The longest serving market trader in a Suffolk town has been honoured for three decades of trading.

Stowmarket’s weekly Thursday market has played host to Dave Large for the past 30 years.

Mr Large, who has a plant and flower stall, received a plaque from the town’s Mayor to celebrate his 30 years of trading.

The long-serving trader has seen a few changes in his time serving the people of the town.

When Mr Large first started in 1987 the old cattle market was still a feature.

“I went into this business after helping a friend out on his market stall,” said Mr Large, who admits that in the early days he did not know all that much about plants and relied on the customers to tell him what was what.

Learning on the job, Mr Large now regularly gives out advice and tips he has picked up after three decades of service.

The Thursday market is held in Market Place.
