The count down to Christmas has begun, with residents across Suffolk and north Essex preparing for various Christmas lights switch on events.

Newmarket Christmas lights switch on

Tuesday, November 14

The Newmarket lights will be switched on this year by Eastenders star Scott Maslen.

The Mayor of Newmarket, Andy Drummond, will also be there helping switch on the lights.

The event runs from 4pm until 9pm and is full of things to do.

You can watch three pantomimes, take a ride on the fairground, enjoy late night shopping and lots more.

Thursday, November 16

The lights switch on event starts at 4.45pm on Thursday, November 16.

Ipswich’s Mayor will then turn on the lights at 7pm.

Ipswich will see the return of their real Christmas tree at the event, instead of the bauble one which has been in its place the last few years.

There will be lots of entertainment and the opportunity for some late night shopping.

Thursday, November 16

The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma Collins is set to switch on the Christmas lights at Freeport Braintree.

The evening of festivities will take place on Thursday, November 16.

From 4pm there will be a series of family-friendly activities and entertainment for children.

You can pose for a picture in Santa’s giant chair and meet the reindeer.

Thursday, November 16

Festivities in Bury St Edmunds start on November 16 when the Christmas lights are switched on.

There will be free street and stage entertainment, festive fundraising stalls and fairground rides.

The lights will be switched on at 7pm by a special festive guest who hasn’t yet been announced.

There’s a full programme of stage and entertainment outside Moyses Hall from 3.15pm.

Saturday, November 18

The event takes place in the town centre from 3pm to 6pm on November 18.

Families will be able to enjoy the Santa Bus, a funfair and food and drink stalls.

Lowestoft Vision is giving one lucky family the chance to turn on the Christmas lights at 5pm.

To be in with a chance to turn on the lights you must enter the find the Christmas elves competition.

Friday, November 24

The Christmas fair and light switch on starts at 5pm on November 24.

The Christmas lights will be switched on by the mayor and the Christmas card competition winner.

There will be a Santa’s Grotto, a synthetic ice skating rink, an inflatable bouncy Christmas pudding and lots more.

There will be a wide range of stalls both inside St Peter’s Church and outside in North Street and Market Hill.

Friday, November 24

The Stowmarket switch on starts at 6pm on November 24.

The lights will be switched on by Britain’s Got Talent star Matt Edwards.

There will be stalls throughout the town, the chance to meet Father Christmas and live bands.

It will also be a great chance to do your Christmas shopping as shops will stay open late.

Head to Beccles town centre at 5.30pm to enjoy an evening of festivities.

The evening will be packed of local acts, stalls and entertainment throughout the town.

There will also be a new trail throughout the town so keep an eye on social media for more details.

Saturday, November 25

Framlingham will be holding a celebration to officially switch on the Christmas lights.

Head down and join in with the singing and traditional celebration.

The event will be on Market Hill and will run from 5pm to 6pm.

The winner of the festive window competition will also be announced.

The Christmas lights in Eye will be switched on December 1.

It will take place in the town centre at 6pm.

This year the official Christmas lights switch on and craft market starts at 5pm.

The lights will be switched on by the Mayor of Felixstowe.

There will be a range of gift, food and charity stalls, a Santa’s Grotto and carol singing.

There will also be an ice rink, so get your skates ready!

The three-week long Clare Winter Festival starts on Friday, November 24.

During these three weeks there will be a Christmas fair, a Christmas market and the Christmas light switch on.

The lights will get switched on Saturday, December 2 and on the same day there will be a Christmas craft fair in the town hall.
