UK Power Networks have extra staff on duty this morning as parts of Suffolk and Essex begin to experience windy conditions brought by Storm Brian.

A yellow Met Office weather warning was put in place for winds across southern England at 4am today, and this is due to remain in place until midnight tonight.

Gusts of up to 60mph could batter exposed coastline across East Anglia today, forecasters have predicted.

Chief forecaster Dan Suri said: “Gusts between 45 and 55mph are expected widely within the warning area, with gusts of 60 to 70mph along exposed coastal areas.

“These are expected to coincide with high tides, leading to locally dangerous conditions in coastal parts.”

According to the UK Power Networks live power cut map, there are no major overhead wire problems to report so far this morning.

But bosses say they have more engineers on hand to deal with situations as they arise.

They are urging anyone who spots a damaged power line to call them immediately and steer clear to avoid serious injury.

A UK Power Networks spokesman said: “If the storm causes any disruption to electricity supplies the latest information is available by ringing 105 and seeing the live power cut map on our website.

“In the interests of safety anyone who spots a damaged power line should call us immediately and stay well clear.”
