A man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after the van he was driving crashed into a ditch in Suffolk.

The collision happened on the B1115 in Great Finborough around 11am today and resulted in the road being closed.

The driver was left trapped in the van and was freed with help from firefighters at the scene.

He was flown to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge by air ambulance.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said the man sustained leg injuries.

He added: “His condition is unknown.”

The road reopened and was cleared by 2.30pm.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters removed the vehicle from the ditch using a winch.

Four fire crews – one each from Stowmarket and Elmswell and two from Bury St Edmunds – were sent to the scene.

An ambulance crew, two ambulance officers and an Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were also in attendance, also with police.
