A popular steam rally will be powering up this summer as a huge array of engines arrive at a Suffolk farm.

Woolpit Steam rally will be returning over the weekend of June 1 and 2 to Warren Farm, Wetherden, near Stowmarket.

The 2023 rally was an "incredible" success, said organisers, raising a record £30,000 for local charities and community groups.

The cumulative total raised by Woolpit Steam Rally to date is more than £330,000.

The event is organised by brothers David and Gerald Seeley and is renowned for its pre-1930 tractor display rivalling many of the largest shows in the country.

"We hope to be able to raise much needed funds again this year," said the brothers.

"None of this would be possible without the support that we receive from local businesses and sponsors, the stewards and helpers and all of the people that join us for a great day out.

"We are already being offered some very rare, interesting and historic exhibits, and it is this desire to present to the public such unusual machinery which makes Woolpit Steam different from many other shows."

This encouraged true enthusiasts to travel from all parts of the country - as well as drawing in local visitors, they said.

The brothers expect to see around 20 pre-1930s tractors on show again this year - as well as around 70 tractors built before 1965.

About 80 stationary engines - several more than 100 years old - are also lined up.

Many will be on show doing what they were originally designed for by driving an array of mills, pumps, dynamos and other machinery.

Among the attractions will be the Bamford line shafting display where one engine powers multiple machines for preparing feed for livestock.

A wood sawing display will show steam, tractor and stationary engine driven saws producing planks, posts and fire wood.

A mighty Caterpillar D8 bulldozer will be demonstrating its power and performance levelling soil.

Full size steam engines on display will include showman's engines, agricultural engines and  a portable engine designed to be towed between jobs.

The display will also include vintage cars, motorcycles and commercial and military vehicles and more than 50 craft, trade and auto jumble stalls. There is also hot and cold food, licensed bar and ice creams.

Mike Rule will be returning with his with Steam Gallopers and big wheel - enabling visitors to get a bird's eye view of the show.

These will be supported by side stalls, Punch & Judy and a full ring programme on both days to keep families entertained.

Gates are open from 9am to 5pm both days and admission is adults £8 Saturday / £9 Sunday, and children £2 either day. Organisers are unable to accept card payments.

Parking is free and the show is easily accessible from Junction 47a on the A14 eastbound, or Junction 49 westbound.

The event is hosted by Woolpit farmers Bob and Trish Baker of R&P Baker - who also own Woolpit Business Park and Stowmarket sushi company Ichiban. The postcode is IP14 3JX.
