5 Suffolk pubs near to railway stations for a pint pitstop

Here are some pubs and bars that you could visit this festive season without having to be the designated driver.

1. The Station Hotel, Ipswich

The Station Hotel is located between the River Gipping and Ipswich station, perfectly placed for those looking to hop off and back onto a train.

With Guinness, Carling and Neck Oil on tap, there are lots of options for any kind of beer drinker, and there are cocktail options too for those looking for something sweeter.

At £75 per night for a room, those looking for an impromptu night's stay after their pub pints can book a room without breaking the bank. 

2. The Anchor, Woodbridge

Located just across the street from the station at the quayside, The Anchor is a Greene King pub and, as such, serves all of the Bury St Edmunds brewery's favourite ales at the bar. 

This is a great location for those looking to have a bite to eat with their drinks. 

The kitchen, run by Vernon Blackmore and his team, serves a range of delicious dishes inspired by Blackmore's Asian heritage. 

Mr Blackmore recently popped over the road and heads up the kitchen at Canteen at New Street Market.

3. The Beerhouse, Bury St Edmunds

Part of the Gusto Pronto family, The Beerhouse is the brewery tap for the company's craft brewery Brewshed just down the road. 

They always have five or six Brewshed real ales on the bar in addition to Brewshed keg beers - some are part of the core range and some are seasonal. 

Those looking for a glass of something else will be able to enjoy their extensive range of wines and spirits on offer.

4. The White Hart, Halesworth

The White Hart can be found in the heart of Halesworth town centre and a short walk from the nearby station. 

Supplied by Adnams, brewed in nearby Southwold, the pub always has a minimum of three cask ales available, together with local and continental lagers.

The White Hart is a traditional pub set in a characterful listed building and makes for a lovely backdrop to enjoy a pint and catchup with friends during this festive period.

5. The Gainsborough Pub, Sudbury

With beers on tap stretching from Adnams to Greene King, The Gainsborough is a popular haunt with Sudbury locals. 

With the station just around the corner, the several real fires in historic fireplaces make this a great place to relax with friends and family and enjoy a cosy atmosphere. 

There are also cocktails on the menu, and live music events regularly hosted at the venue.
