A man from Wattisham has spoken of his delight after changing his life by losing 8.5 stone in just 32 weeks.

Ian Brookes has struggled with his weight for most of his adult life.

He gained more weight as the pandemic took its toll in 2020 and after seeing himself on some CCTV footage, he said he hardly recognised himself.

Mr Brookes said: "I was shocked with the weight I had gained.

"I knew I needed to do something.

"My daily diet consisted mainly of takeaway food, layered with ketchup and sugary treats in between meals.

"I was at risk of diabetes, I had high blood pressure, and had to wear breathing apparatus to sleep due to sleep apnoea."

In April 2022, the 41-year-old joined Slimming World at Stowmarket Football Club.

He said: "It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

"Walking through the doors filled me with dread.

"I had no idea what to expect and was worried that I would be the only man in the room.

"I was so wrong and my fears and worries were taken away within moments of walking through the door."

After his first week attending, he lost 12lbs and has gone on to lose eight stone and seven lbs.

He went from wearing 5XL clothes to a medium in the space of those eight months.

He said: "I have recently been taken off my sleep apnoea machine.

"I love Slimming World, it's not just a diet, it's a lifestyle.

"I remain part of the group which is a key part to keeping my weight off long term.

"I am so glad I took the plunge when I did."
